WORLD'S SIMPLEST BLEND BY COMPASS BOX
Compass Box, a renowned London-based producer and marketer of Scotch whisky, has released the third edition of its blended scotch ‘The Double Single’.
The new edition consists of two simple elements. First, malt whisky from the Glen Elgin distillery of Speyside that has been matured in re-charred ex-Bourbon hogsheads, and makes up 72% of the blend.
Second, grain whisky from Girvan distillery from Lowland, matured in a similar way.
Tatsuya Minagawa and Duncan Elphick, the tour de force behind this unique blend, along with founder John Glaser, initially planned to blend a single malt with a single grain whiskey.
Glaser stated that the first two editions of The Double Single have already become quite popular among whiskey enthusiasts. He stated, “How many components are required to create true complexity in a blended Scotch whisky? For Double Single, instead of using many tens of component whiskies, we have used just two – one single grain whisky and one single malt whisky, hence the name.”
Around 6,000 bottles of the new edition have already been produced. These have been bottled at 46% ABV, with no age statement as such.
The expression has already been introduced across Europe, and will be launched in US soon. They have been priced at £150 and $175, respectively.
