WhistlePig's 'The Black Prince' named the best in show whiskey
At the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits competition, the judges declared that the Vermont distillery WhistlePig produces the finest whiskey in the world. To be particular, it was the Boss Hog IV ‘The Black Prince’ bottle that was awarded the “best rye whiskey” and “best in show whiskey” at the recently concluded event.
Considered a top shelf whiskey, The Black Prince contains 100% rye and is bottled at cask strength (124 proof). Moreover, the 14-year-old whiskey is finished in Armagnac barrels.
Created by one of the former contestants of The Apprentice Raj Bhakt, the WhistlePig is a young distillery and has just started to establish its heritage. Originally a 500-acre dairy farm, this distillery is just seven years old. The company sources more matured whiskeys and ages these further in oak barrels at their Vermont farm.
Over the years, WhistlePig has gained a reputation for producing some of the most-awarded whiskies. The recently acclaimed ‘The Black Prince’ is priced at $500, but not available for sale. Moreover, these bottles may be hard come by as the distillery bottles only 30 barrels.
Hotel Nikko in San Francisco hosted the international sprits competition this year. Some notable mentions include Tarquin’s Sea Dog Navy Strength Gin that won ‘best gin’, and Nosotros Blanco Tequila which was named ‘best tequila’.
