Slane Distillery: A New Member of the Irish Whiskey Family
The Irish whiskey sector is set to welcome a new addition to its repertoire of distilleries. Slane Distillery, currently under construction, is expected to be ready for operations by July.
Located in County Meath at Boyne Valley, the distillery gains its name from the famous Slane Castle — the grounds of which it stands on.
Valued at EUR47 million, construction of the Slane Distillery commenced in September of 2015. It is now in the finishing stages of development.
Henry Conyngham and his son Alex Conyngham are the co-owners of Slane Castle and its grounds. They have formed a partnership with Brown-Forman (a well-known American producer of spirits) to establish the new brewery.
The producers of Southern Comfort, Jack Daniels and Finlandia Vodka, Brown-Forman reported over USD3 billion in revenues last year.
Alex Conyngham expressed pride and enthusiasm about the new project nearing fruition.
Chief marketing officer of Brown-Forman, John Hayes, also shared his excitement at launching the new line of Irish whiskey and begin operations at Slane Distillery. He said, “We are confident that Slane will offer a superb Irish whiskey experience and taste.”
Slane Irish Whiskey is scheduled for launch within Ireland in April, followed by select markets in the USA, UK and Australia. Slane is Brown-Forman’s first distillery outside the US.
