Macallan debuts Aroma-Based Edition No. 3
The producer of world renowned single malt Scotch whisky, Macallan Distillers, has launched the newest product in their annual Edition series. Macallan’s Edition No. 3 is the latest addition to their innovative series where new approaches to making whisky have been explored. This time they have collaborated with Roja Dove, a specialist in luxury fragrances, to help create a blend where flavour and aroma are closely intertwined.
The new product will continue the saga of Macallan’s unique oak casks, which introduces whisky enthusiasts to the intricacies of whisky making. Roja Dove has implemented his understanding of fragrances to distinguish and label aromas present in the oak casks. Macallan has leveraged this expertise to develop a new fragrance for their whisky. A careful selection of dominant notes shape the Edition No. 3’s final character. Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker, Bob Dalgarno emphasized inspiration and innovation to lie at the heart of The Macallan. He said that the Edition No. 3 is the result of a collaboration with one of the most sought-after aroma experts in the world (Roja Dove). The product is a testament to the brand’s unconventional style and originality.
Roja Dove has stated that Dalgarno and he noticed the commonalities they both shared right away. The product of their synergy is a wonderfully balanced whisky which is fresh and citrusy on the palate, with a pervasive sweetness on the nose.
Having selected a smaller variety of European and American Oak casks, Macallan has been able to bring out a ‘sweet and fruity’ character in this spirit. The Macallan Edition No. 3 has been bottled at 48.3% ABV, and will be available globally at $95 a bottle.
