FILIBUSTER'S EXPANSION PLANS IN SHENANDOAH VALLEY
Governor of Richmond, Terry McAuliffe, released a statement confirming Filibuster Distillery’s expansion in Shenandoah County. With an investment of USD795, 000, Filibuster is set to broaden operations of whiskey production, and in the process, create eight new jobs over the coming three years. With all the rye and corn being sourced from farmers in Virginia, the company has committed to purchase more than 1.57 million pounds of grain.
Governor McAuliffe applauded the move, stating that apart from attracting investment and creating job opportunities in the Valley, it will bolster Virginia’s stature as a leading producer of craft beverage. He observed, “This AFID grant leverages our diverse agriculture industry, one of the Commonwealth’s greatest assets, to help build the new Virginia economy.” Basil Gooden, Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, echoed this view.
The project is a partnership between the Commonwealth, Shenandoah County and Filibuster. It is being funded by the Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development (AFID), which falls under the administration of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS).
Owner of Filibuster Distillery Suman Dilawri appreciated the efforts of the County, and expressed excitement at the prospect of expanding operations in the Valley.
Conrad Helsley, Board of Supervisors Chairman of Shenandoah County, praised the County’s natural beauty and abundance of resources. He emphasized the importance of the quality of water in producing fine whiskey, and approved of Filibuster’s decision. With surging demand for small batch bourbons and locally distilled brews within the country, he said he is honored by the company’s choice of Shenandoah County to uphold a national tradition.
