Aldi's Whiskey Named One Of The World's Best
The leading supermarket company, Aldi, has added another feather to their cap. One of its own alcoholic brand offerings has been named the “the best of the rest” at a distinguished spirits competition. Judges have also described the winning tipple as “a rich blend of the finest grain and malt whiskies from Scotland”.
Headquartered in Essen, Germany, the supermarket chain has over 10,000 stores across 18 countries, and an estimated turnover of approximately €50 billion.
In the Scotch whisky category, Aldi won silver in the 22nd International Spirits Challenge (ISC). Presently, the ISC awards is regarded as one of the most influential spirit competitions in the world. The whiskey was able to beat other brands that were over triple the price of it.
Tony Baines, the joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi, Tony Baines, said in a release, “The UK’s perception of whisky has changed a lot over the past years.”
Baines further stated that the accolades has proved that whisky lovers enjoy great value drinks without compromising on the quality. He added that Aldi’s core range Highland Black 8 Year Old Whisky has been very popular amongst shoppers, owing to its excellent value and high quality.
Moreover, Aldi’s own collection Glen Marnoch Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky and Glen Marnoch Highland Single Malt Scotch Whiskey received two gongs at the award ceremony - for quality and value at £17.49 per 70cl bottle.

Consumers are experimenting with more spirits, especially the millennials. Beale also stated that whiskies serve as the base of the most popular cocktail, the Old Fashioned, and fit into the trendy and versatile product category.
