Summer’s here. If the soaring temperatures are any indication how the rest of the season is going to unfold, then you must arm yourself with a good drink or two. Now, punches may remind you of Christmas, but fruit punches make for ideal summer drinks. Surprising? Well, there’s more. Did you know that the word punch has roots in Sanskrit? You heard that right. It has been adopted from Sanskrit, meaning five. A punch is made with five ingredients. Ours, of course, has alcohol as the star alongside sugar, lemon, water, tea/spices.

We bring to you our take on a summery boozy punch. Here’s how you can make the Tomahawk punch that’ll serve 8 people:

  • 750 ml of Scotch whisky, preferably Chivas Regal
  • 350 ml of chili liqueur
  • 350 ml of honey
  • 350 ml of strained fresh lime juice
  • 15 ml of Angostura bitters
  • 500 ml of sparkling cider
  • A large pumpkin, the insides of which have been removed and the top sliced off
  • A thinly sliced lime wheel for garnishing
  • A thinly sliced lemon wheel for garnishing
  • Grated nutmeg powder
  • Cinnamon powder

The Process

Add all the punch ingredients in a large bowl or a hollow pumpkin. Now, add ice chunks along with the sparkling cider. Stir to combine well. Garnish it with lemon and lime wheels on top. Grate nutmeg and cinnamon on top to finish it off. Tada! There you have it, a delightful summer drink to binge one. Cheers!
