Scotch Single Malts Witness Growth Spurt
The single malt is something that a true whisky connoisseur will vouch for. Whisky purists prefer the single malt over everything else. Fermented from a mash that is made along with malted grain, exclusively in a single distillery. It is this repute of the revered Scotch whisky that has acted as a catalyst in increasing the export values to £1.8 billion during the first half of the year, with a total growth of 3.4%. The increase has been recorded across the globe, including the states comprising the largest markets of the whisky industry. This growth has significantly benefitted the whole UK economy and the export performance of the country. Scotch still is Britain’s greatest food and drink export item. It makes up almost a fifth of the alcohol sector’s overseas shipments.
In the report of the analysis that was conducted by the government, certain figures have been published by the SWA (Scotch Whisky Association). It shows a trend where consumers are moving forward to buy larger volumes of single malts and exports are up 7% to £479 million in the first 6 months of the year. The Single malts are now making up a bit more than a quarter of the total value of all the Scotch that is being shipped overseas. The trend has become clearer in the states where the total amount of Scotch exports were up by 8.6% to a staggering £388 million and single malts jumped by 14% to £123 million.
The Scotch Whisky Association chief executive, Karen Betts has been quoted saying that more and more whisky consumers around the world are being driven towards the fabulous range of single malts. He was pleased to see the increasing range of emerging markets across the globe.
