Scotch Malt Whisky Society's Second London Bar in the Offing
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS), a well-known membership organization selling single malt whisky, has announced that it will be opening a second bar in London by the end of June 2017. It will also be the first of its kind to welcome non-members.
The new bar – Kaleidoscope – will be located at Devonshire Square, and will be situated beneath Mac & Wild, the Scottish restaurant. The space was formerly a warehouse near Liverpool Street station. It will initially have a stock of over 200 single cask whiskies that have been produced by the society, when it opens for business in the first week of June.
Kaleidoscope will offer a wide range of whiskey cocktails that will be the brainchild of the two mixologists – Jamie Meehan and Michael Cook. These will include the famous Blood and Sand, Old Fashioned, and Bloody Scotsman. The menu will also include a number of wine, champagne, and draught beer from Edinburgh. Moreover, visitors will have an opportunity to choose from bottle craft beers. The bar shall also offer light snacks, courtesy of Mac & Wild.
It is first among the society’s London bars that will allow general public access, following the launch of a somewhat venture by the same name at Edinburgh.
SMWS’ bar at Farringdon that serves only London members will continue its normal business.
Jan Damen, Operations Director for the SMWS, UK, said, “With Kaleidoscope at Devonshire Square we want to open up our amazing selection of bottlings to a new audience of whisky fans, so that they can discover this fascinating world of single cask single malts.”
The bar will open for a special one-off event to celebrate World Whisky Day on 20 May 2017, from noon to six in the evening. Masterclasses have been scheduled to take place between 1 PM – 3 PM.
