Glenturret Releases Jamieson's Jigger Edition
Glenturret, one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland, has released a 29-year old single cask malt, named after Michael Jamieson, a cooper who served the Scotch industry for 44 years.
The Glenturret Jamieson’s Jigger Edition has been made available since 8 March, 2017. It is a cask strength single malt whisky that has hints of lavender infused honey and sweet vanilla. There are only 170 bottles available and have been priced between £295-£395.
This whiskey was packed on 20 November, 1987 in a repaired cask which was once part of the iconic Clyde Cooperage in Addiewell – this was at a time when Jamieson was at the peak of his career. He had begun his career at Clyde Cooperage in 1971, when he was just 15 years old.
Jamieson was also into making wooden washbacks for several distilleries across Scotland, including the fir washbacks used at Glenturret.
Retired, he now lives in Speyside. Towards the end of his career, Jamieson worked as a foreman cooper for seven years. He was responsible for moving 40,000 Sherry casks from Spain.
Delighted and honored, Jamieson stated, “I have fond memories of visiting Glenturret throughout my career and I have no doubt that the cask that this special whisky matured in would have once passed through the cooperage all those years ago.” He further stated that it is a great industry to work in and that he will miss all the banter, as he looks forward to enjoying his retirement in Speyside.
