Dewars 12 Year Old Blended Scotch
The company claims Dewar’s is the number one blended Scotch whisky brand in the United States. The most popular blend in the Dewar’s family is the Dewar’s White Label, their standard bottling.
History of Dewar’s 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky
John Dewar created the Dewar’s brand in 1846 as a store, and had similar humble origins like many a blended Scotch brands that went on to make it big. Business under John was steady for many years, as popularity grew and so did the demand.
John Alexander and Thomas, John Dewar’s sons joined the company soon, helping expand and run the business after their father’s death in 1880. The Dewar’s brand thrived under John Alexander and Thomas, prospering not just locally, but also globally.
The success of the Dewar’s brand was represented in the construction of the Aberfeldy Distillery in 1896, allowing the company to distil their own single malts. One incident that is credited with popularizing the Dewar’s brand in America was when Andrew Carnegie gifted a keg of Dewar’s to President Benjamin Harrison.
Currently, the brand is immensely popular in the European and American markets, with the White Label blend drawing the most sales.
Making Process of Dewar’s 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky
This blend is built around the Aberfeldy single malt, which acts as the blueprint whisky for most Dewar’s blends. Dewar’s 12 Year Old undergoes a process that the company describes as ‘double aging’.
After blending the malt and grain whiskies, the resulting spirit is then matured in oak barrels for a further six to nine months. This ensures the harmony between the source whiskies that make up the Dewar’s 12 Year Old blend.
Alcohol Percentage of Dewar’s 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky
The Dewar’s 12 Year Old blended Scotch carries an alcohol strength of 40% ABV, the standard permissible limit for all Scotch whiskies.
