Chivas regal Ultis
Chivas Regal Ultis is a blended malt Scotch from the house of Chivas Regal, pioneers makers of some of the most critically acclaimed blended Scotch whiskies worldwide. It is a no-age-statement blended malt, created in honour of the five legendary Master Blenders at Chivas Regal
The Ultis is the first ever blended malt Scotch released by Chivas Regal in the brand’s entire history that dates back to the mid-19th century. Unlike blended Scotch whiskies, the Ultis is a blended malt which indicates that no grain whiskies have been added to the blend.
History of Chivas Regal Ultis Whisky
The Chivas Regal brand was established by brothers, James and John Chivas when they started working at a grocery store in Aberdeen, Scotland. At the grocery store, the Chivas Brothers dabbled in luxury goods and commodities such as exotic spices, coffee, brandy and more. It was here that the duo began to experiment, blending different whiskies at their disposal to create something extraordinary.
Eventually, the Brothers released a blended Scotch whisky under the name, the Royal Strathytan. This was a proprietary blend, and earned the Chivas Brothers much popularity among their wealthy clientele. This allowed them to experiment with blends more and more, as they began to stockpile whiskies of different ages and originations.
The Chivas Brothers’ exploits did not go unnoticed even by the British Monarchy, earning them a Royal Warrant in 1824. The Royal Warrant enabled the Chivas Brothers to supply goods to Queen Victoria herself. This led to further success as they were soon appointed Royal Grocers to the Duchess of Kent, the Queen’s mother, cementing their status as procurer of luxury items for the rich noblemen of Britain.
Over the years, the name Chivas Regal became synonymous with prestige and opulence. The world’s first luxury whisky, the Chivas Regal 25 Year Old took the world by storm. It became the hottest prospect in America, where it became the drink of choice for the rich and the famous.
As the years went by, the traditions of Chivas Regal were kept alive by each Master Blender that joined the house of Chivas. The Chivas Regal Ultis is an expression created to honour the five Master Blenders that helped preserve the traditions and exceptional quality that Chivas Regal had come to be known for.
Making process of Chivas Regal Ultis Whisky
The Chivas Regal Ultis is a blend of five of the most coveted and precious single malts from five different distilleries, the Strathisla, Allt a’Bhainne, the Braeval, the Longmorn and the Tormore.
The Strathisla single malt is the fingerprint whisky that every single Chivas blend is built around. It is the oldest continuously functioning distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland, and is considered to be a historic institution.
The five hand-selected single malts are the legacy of the five Master Blenders who contributed to making the house of Chivas Regal what it is today. The work of Charles Howard, Charles Julian, Allan Baillie, Jimmy Lang and the current custodian at Chivas Regal, Master Blender Colin Scott have been blended to perfection to create history.
Unlike most blends in the market, the Ultis is a blended malt Scotch which indicates the lack of grain whisky in any proportion. Each single malt brings a unique quality and character to this irresistible blend.
A tribute to the five Master Blenders is evident in the packaging of the Chivas Regal Ultis. The neck of the bottle features a pen-clip look etched with five rings paying homage to the five Master Blenders. The Roman numeral ‘V’ has also been prominently featured on the packaging of the Chivas Regal Ultis.
